You have received a letter from the IRS or state questioning items that you filed on your tax return from the year before. You begin to panic, but then, relief washes over you! When you were filing your tax returns through TurboTax®, you decided to opt in and purchase Audit Defense. At the time, you were not sure whether you would need it but, ultimately, decided to add it on – just in case. Thank goodness! Now that you know you have Audit Defense, what is next?

So, how does TurboTax® Audit Defense work?

Once you receive a letter from the IRS or state, the first thing you want to do is report your audit or notice to us. You can do this on our website or by contacting our Customer Service Department. One of our excellent Customer Service Representatives will work with you to make sure we have the correct contact information and start a case to get the ball rolling!

After you report your letter, you will be assigned a Case Coordinator who will seamlessly guide you through the process of providing some required documents to us. A few simple preliminary documents are needed, such as the letter you received and your tax return for the year in question. You can submit these documents to us through our easy-to-use member assistance portal. It is a one-stop-shop for uploading documents, sending and receiving messages, as well as a secure way to store all of your information. Once your Case Coordinator has everything they need to assign your case, you will be assigned to a Tax Professional.

Your Tax Professional will review your tax return and the letter you received from the taxing agency. They will then guide you through the process of gathering supporting documents, respond to the taxing agency on your behalf, and will work diligently to make sure that you will not pay more than what is rightfully owed.

The advantage of working with TaxAudit is you will never have to face the IRS alone and our team of tax professionals are here by your side to walk you through every step of the process. Our tax professionals will work with you until a resolution is reached.

Audit defense with TaxAudit through TurboTax® is the sigh of relief that helps turn a scary situation into a positive experience. If you are interested in purchasing Audit Defense, the easiest way is to purchase it when you file your taxes with TurboTax®. If you missed it this year or want to get Audit Defense for past years, you can purchase memberships through our TurboTax® Audit Defense site.
