Revenue Officer Case Representation
The IRS sends most taxpayers who owe money through the Automated Collection System (ACS). This system automatically sends out letters and notices to taxpayers about their delinquent taxes. If a taxpayer does not respond or take action, the ACS automatically starts to implement its arsenal of collection tools ─ such as wage garnishment and bank levies ─ to try and collect the tax.
When a taxpayer or business is seriously delinquent (i.e., they generally owe more than $250,000), their case may be assigned directly to an IRS Revenue Officer instead of the ACS. Revenue Officers are known to visit your place of business or home and may summons you to appear for interviews. The Revenue Officer’s job is to examine your situation in order to determine your collectibility and collect as much tax as possible.
