Our Founding

In 1988, TaxResources, Inc. was founded when it saved 79 unresolved California audit cases from a bankrupt audit defense firm. Shortly thereafter, our first audit representative set out on a road trip across California, determined to protect and defend the 79 individuals and to make a difference in their lives.


The 90s - Early Growth

Throughout the 90s, the number of audit cases increased and additional tax professionals were brought on to help. In 1998, TaxResources made an agreement with Intuit® to include its prepaid Audit Defense service as an “add-on” in their TurboTax® software and to assist TurboTax® users with their tax questions.

Establishing a Brand

In 2000, TaxResources established its first brand identity. A maze-like icon represented the complexity of a tax audit and the confusion it can create.

Expansion

In 2002, TaxResources opened a software development office in Ventura County in an effort to use software technology to help audit representatives effectively manage audit cases. And in 2004, to help with the everincreasing workload, TaxResources opened an office in Orange County, CA, an area inhabited by a large number of enrolled agents and CPAs. By 2008, TaxResources' membership had reached one million.

Education

As a sign of our commitment to providing the best possible service to our members, TaxResources started a tax education department in 2006. Now known as Learning & Development, this team offers in-house IRS approved classes for our tax professionals to ensure they are up-todate on the latest tax legislation. The team also provides in-depth research and analysis on our members' complex tax issues.

Fresh New Look

In 2011, ownership of the company was transferred to an Employee Stock Ownership Trust. By 2013, TaxResources had more than 3 million members and rebranded itself to TaxAudit.com with a fresh new look. In 2017, TaxAudit dropped the "dot com" from its name. Having outgrown its office space in Citrus Heights, the company moved its headquarters to Folsom, CA.

Technology

Always looking for ways to improve the member experience, our technology division launched our online Message Access Portal (MAP) in 2012. MAP provides an easy and secure way to communicate with our members and send required documents. In 2019, we launched the TaxAudit Mobile App to enable our members to submit documents easily and securely from their smart phones.

10 Million Members!

TaxAudit membership reached 10 million in 2018 as team members celebrated 30 Years of Making a Difference. Since our founding in 1988, our core purpose has been helping people – and as a trusted partner of TurboTax® for the past 20 years, we have grown to become the leading audit defense firm in the nation.
